Some of the men of our chapter out for Viola donations. violaThe VIOLA is the National Flower of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Deep-hued and wide-blossomed, the purple floral symbol was adopted in January 1946 as was the proclamation designating August 7th through August 14th inclusive, adopted as Purple Heart Week in the United States. August 7th chosen because that was the date that General George Washington created the Order of the Purple Heart Citation, and August 14th which is the anniversary date of V-J Day. Viola “tag days” are generally held during this momentous week.

History of Chapter 5555

Given our chapter charter in 2009 from the department of Minnesota Purple Heart we’re  yet the new kids on the block within the dept., as no other chapters have been added. Dubbed the Jewel of the South Chapter  as  of our location in SE MN (Winona) and that we are very active with many of the programs the Purple Heart organization has. Having around 55 members we have about 14 attend the monthly meeting regularly having members come great distances to attend. Officers have pretty much remained the same through out the years. The chapter Patriots enjoy doing the Viola promotions and a big perk too is speaking to schools of our Vietnam experience and what the country was like when we were there.
